- Reduces breast cancer recurrence
How Generic Aromasin Works
Generic Aromasin reduces estrogen production in peripheral tissues, which is the primary source of estrogen after menopause. Lower estrogen levels deprive hormone-sensitive breast cancer cells of growth signals.
Because it binds irreversibly to aromatase, exemestane provides sustained estrogen suppression. This makes it effective in tamoxifen-resistant breast cancer.
Drug Info
Exemestane– ORAL (ek SE mes tane)
Common Brand Name(s): Aromasin™
Other name brands for this medication
Xtane, Exetraz, Xmalon, Exmasin, Samexa, Xamalon, Exeget, Xemasin, Zemasin
Uses of Aromasin
This medication is used to treat certain types of breast cancer (such as hormone-
receptor-positive breast cancer) in women after menopause. Exemestane is also used to help prevent the cancer from returning. Some breast cancers are made to grow faster by a natural hormone called estrogen. Exemestane decreases the amount of estrogen the body makes and helps to slow or reverse the growth of
these breast cancers.
Exemestane is usually not used in women of childbearing age.
