Possible Uses of Lamictal: This medicine is an anticonvulsant used to treat partial seizures.

Before using Lamictal: WARNING: Serious, even fatal, rashes have occurred while using this medicine. These rashes ( e.g., Stevens-Johnson syndrome) are more common in children ( less than 16 years old) than in adults. Therefore, lamotrigine should only be used in children who have seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. Immediately notify your doctor if you develop any type of rash. If this medicine is the cause of the rash, the drug must be stopped. Even after stopping this medicine, it is still possible for the rash to cause permanent or fatal scarring along with other problems. The possibility of a rash may be increased by using too much of this medicine when treatment begins, increasing the dose beyond what your doctor prescribes during treatment, or taking valproic acid with lamotrigine. Most fatal rashes have occurred within 2 to 8 weeks of starting this medicine. However, fatalities have occurred after 6 months of use. Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking carbamazepine or valproic acid. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking this medicine.

How to take Lamictal: Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. THIS MEDICINE MAY COME WITH A PATIENT INFORMATION LEAFLET. Read it carefully. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this medicine. THIS MEDICINE MAY BE TAKEN on an empty stomach or with food. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature, away from heat, light, and moisture. Do not miss any doses. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do NOT take 2 doses at once.

Precautions When Using Lamictal: DO NOT STOP USING THIS MEDICINE without first checking with your doctor. IF YOUR SYMPTOMS DO NOT IMPROVE or if they become worse, check with your doctor. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE, OR SURGERY, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using this medicine. THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE DROWSINESS. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to this medicine. Using this medicine alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions about which medicines cause drowsiness. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking this medicine.

Side Effects of Lamictal: SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, double vision, blurred vision, or headache. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience skin rash, hives, fever, facial swelling, painful sores in your mouth or around your eyes, swelling of lips or tongue, or an increase in the number or frequency of seizures. Missed dose of Lamictal: IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE and you are taking 1 dose daily, take the missed dose if you remember the same day. Skip the missed dose if you do not remember until the next day. do not double the next dose

Storage of Lamictal: Store at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture. Keep this and all medications out of the reach of children.
