Possible Uses of Zerit: This medicine is an antiviral used to manage human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection.

Before using Zerit: WARNING: Severe, even fatal, liver and blood acid-base balance problems (lactic acidosis) have occurred infrequently while using this medicine. Fatal lactic acidosis has also occurred during pregnancy when this medicine was used in combination with didanosine and other drugs used to treat HIV. Rare cases of muscle weakness/paralysis have occurred (similar to Guillain-Barre syndrome) especially in those with lactic acidosis. Notify your doctor immediately if you develop dark urine, yellowing of the skin or eyes, abdominal or stomach pain, rapid breathing, drowsiness, or muscle aches or weakness, or trouble breathing (e.g., very shallow breathing). When used in combination with certain medicines, pancreatitis (sometimes fatal) has occurred on rare occasions. Notify your doctor immediately if you develop severe stomach/abdominal pain. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding.

How to take Zerit: Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. THIS MEDICINE CAN BE TAKEN with food or on an empty stomach. CONTINUE TO TAKE THIS MEDICINE even if you feel well. 

Precautions When Using Zerit: DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE without checking with your doctor. Exceeding the prescribed dose of this medicine may not provide additional benefits, and may increase the risks of side effects. Side Effects of Zerit: SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include headache, muscle or bone pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, or constipation.
