How Generic Precose Works

Generic Precose acts locally in the small intestine to slow carbohydrate breakdown, preventing sudden rises in blood glucose after meals. It does not stimulate insulin secretion, so hypoglycemia is uncommon when used alone.

Because its effect depends on food intake, Precose must be taken with the first bite of each main meal. It is often used as add-on therapy with metformin or sulfonylureas.
