How Generic Prevacid Works

Prevacid works by irreversibly blocking the proton pumps (H⁺/K⁺-ATPase) found in the stomach’s parietal cells. These proton pumps are responsible for the final step of acid secretion. By inhibiting them, lansoprazole significantly reduces gastric acid production, helping relieve heartburn, acid reflux, and ulcer-related pain.

With consistent use, Prevacid provides long-lasting acid suppression, allowing damaged tissues in the esophagus and stomach to heal. Its sustained action makes it effective for both short-term ulcer treatment and long-term management of chronic acid-related disorders such as GERD.
